He was in the United States Army, he studied art at the Chicago Art Institute, worked for various magazines, married, graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Psychology, and then started his own magazine. The very first issue of Playboy hit the newsstands in December 1953, featuring none other but Marilyn Monroe. Hugh Hefner's favorite Playboy Playmate of all time was Marilyn. Hugh Hefner to this day has a very special spot in his heart for Marilyn. He went as far as purchasing the burial plot next to her' s so that he could be next to Marilyn for the rest of time.
