According to an article last month Australia's Melbourne Sun Herald newspaper, Scientology spokesman and sometime actor Tom Cruise will essay the life of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in a new biopic. The wacky actor is under the impression that people doubt his acting ability, so one of his reasons for taking on the role of Hugh Hefner is to show off his acting chops. Now personally, I've never doubted Cruise's abilities as an actor. I'm not a fan, but that's because he's an obnoxious, self-involved asshat and a vocal shill for that noxious cult called Scientology, but I never thought he was a bad actor. In fact, he's been quite good in movies like Jerry McGuire and The Last Samurai. But anyway, it was reported that the 45-year-old actor will play Hugh Hefner in a biopic directed by X-Men 3 director Brett Ratner. At this writing it's not known whether or not Hugh Hefner will allow the film to be made using the actual Playboy mansion as one of the locations, but that would be one more way to guarantee more authenticity in the biopic of the famed ladies' man and softcore pornographer.
